the color * project is a weekly online newsletter founded in 2020, dedicated to amplifying melanated voices in the arts. We highlight artists of color in fields ranging from design to photography to music.
We recognize that the visual arts have always been a traditionally underrepresented field and hope that this newsletter can be a step in the right direction to introduce our readers to more diverse talent. Every week, we spotlight a different BIPOC artist, recommend a BIPOC-made show or movie to watch, and curate a playlist of music made entirely by artists of color.
why * ?
The asterisk references the way in which diversity is often added as an afterthought in most mainstream spaces. By including this symbol in our logo, the color * project hopes to subvert this expectation and introduce a platform where diversity and inclusion is the primary focus rather than a mere addition.
